Miyako Nakamura ’05

Miyako Nakamura graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Fashion Design in 2005. After working as head designer for Zac Posen, Nakamura joined forces with Sarah LaFeur and Narie Foster in 2013 to found M.M.LaFeur. Nakamura is the Creative Director of this brand that designs workwear for all types of working women: stay-at-home moms, office workers, and women running for office. She seeks to empower women through clothing that combines function, comfort, and style. The brand also supports women through initiatives like Ready To Run, which provides complimentary clothing to women running for office. M.M. LaFleur uses eco-conscious materials to make clothing from recycled plastic bottles and recycled polyester. To further its sustainability efforts, the brand started its own resale program called Second Act, where preloved M.M. LaFleur pieces can find a new home at a discounted price.
